Ben's Birthday Party....

We had a joint birthday party for Ben and his friend Ethan (who have the SAME birthday!!!) at our Stake Park. It was so much fun to see all these kids playing together. There were 14 kids and 4 adults, and since we were outside we let the kids RUN all over the place!!

First we sat and had some pizza and soda! I think they probably had more fun taking pictures of each other, but hey, I do believe they ate a little bit!

Then we had a couple hundred water balloons to destroy. It is amazing how long it takes to fill water balloons and how short it takes to use them all up.

The kids played soft toss for a while, until they got bored and wanted to chase Dewey around with them!!

Then we did a pinata. It was a HUGE star filled with candy. And even when someone would break one of the arms off the star nothing would happen. Finally, Dewey and Ethan's dad, Zach had to pry it and kick it open for the kids to enjoy the candy!! A few mom's weren't very happy that we sent kids home with bags of candy... SORRY!!!
Ephraim (he didn't want to destroy lightning....)
Joselyn wanted the blindfold...
Evie Bidwell
Willard wanted to show us his swing!! Hey Batter Batter!
Ethan Bidwell
The aftermath!

Dewey was the one who put this on his head! I think because he chose to put it on his head and I captured it on camera then I am not liable for anything after the fact!!

Then we had cake and candles! It was fun to see Ben and Ethan blow out the candles side by side!
Birthday Boys

I hope they all had a good time! It was fun watching all the kids... not to mention we had a really good clean up crew!!!

The Great 8

It is amazing how quickly time flies. Eight years ago today I anticipated the birth of my first son. I had tried to prepare myself for becoming a mother, doing as all young mothers do, reading everything I could get my hands on, asking advice from my own mother and older sisters, talking with doctors and pediatricians. I was anxious and excited. I was overwhelmed and nervous. Thankfully I did not go into labor on my own (I can say thankfully now because I know what to expect, but then I probably was a wreck) and we were able to schedule an inducement. Ben was born after just a few hours of induced labor. He was a whopping 9 lbs 9 oz and had a head of black hair. His face was red and round, and I held him swaddled as much as I could. I remember watching Dewey hold him and thinking, "He is going to make a great daddy." I remember counting all his fingers and toes and wanting to hold him close to me all the time.

Ben is just an amazing boy. His grandma calls him a genius. He is smart and funny. He loves to read, pretty much anything you put in front of him. He loves motorcycles and bicycles. He wants to climb trees and hike mountains and jump through streams. He enjoys playing games and singing and playing the piano. He likes to make food and eat pickles. He is patient and understanding (I had to add this because being the oldest he is the one I ask to do the most chores, and has to be the one I learn to be a better mom with.) He is kind and helpful, especially with his younger siblings. He is honest and true and is seeking his own testimony. He is a great example to me and I love him so much.

This year he turns eight. This is the year he is baptized and confirmed. Ben I want you to know how wonderful the Gospel of Jesus Christ is. Heavenly Father has a plan for us to become like Him and return to Him. Through His plan we have become an eternal family and as members of the church we make promises and take steps one at a time that bring us closer to Him. I am thankful to know my Savior's love for me, and to be a member of His church. Remembering the day I was baptized and thinking about the steps your are making brings great joy to me.

You have chosen to be baptized
To start your life anew,
Following in Christ’s footsteps
For you know the Gospel’s true,

When our lives are clean and spotless,
The Holy Ghost can guide;
A companion and a prompter
He’ll stay always at your side.

For your reflections of today,
I want to remind you,
Of these sacred vows,
and of the Gospel true.

So clean and white,
Like you’ve become today;
When you vowed to follow Jesus
and your sins were washed away.

To follow in Christ’s footsteps
The commandments to obey,
To  remember His atonement
and for repentance, pray.

Remember God is near you
His love for you is great
Stay near the Straight and Narrow Path
Where lasting blessing wait.

School is in Session.... and We're BACK!!!

Today was the first day of school. Last night we all picked out our clothes and set the aside our beds. We went to bed on time and had a good restful night's sleep, (all except mom and Ephraim). We woke with jitters in our tummies and smiles on our faces. We quickly showered and got in our new school clothes, complete with shoes and socks. We had a delicious breakfast of cereal and fruit of which only mom and Ephraim ate all of. We brushed our teeth and then...

Ben went off to school by himself. He said he didn't need me to walk him or drive him, that he would rather walk all by himself. Mom didn't know that being in second grade made him so mature. But she didn't cry.

Ben's SMILE!
Please let me go now...
Two hours later, the rest of us were ready to walk to school too. Today was kindergarten orientation. It was a lot of fun walking slowly to school. It was even more fun seeing all the kids that were on Will & Joë's soccer team in their class. And it was even more fun to do some fun activities with Mom watching while we got used to the school atmosphere. We learned the rules for the bathroom, drinking fountain and classroom sink. We explored the car mat and kitchen areas. We got to make fruit loop bracelets (then we got to EAT them!!) We made flowers to go in Mrs. Iverson's kinder garden. We got to explore OUR recess play area, and then we had to come home. We can't wait to go back again next week! Maybe we will stow away in Ben's backpack tomorrow!

Mom asked Ben what he thought of second grade. He said, "Awesome."

Mom asked Will what he thought of Kindergarten. He said, "Awesome." -with two thumbs up!

Mom asked Joë was she thought of Kindergarten. She said, "Awesome."

Mom hopes they learn a few more words in school....
