Cub Scout Bottle Rocket Pack Meeting

Our pack meeting on Tuesday was about Honesty. My boys got to do the flag ceremony and talk a little about why cub scouts are honest.

We don’t lie because we are Cub Scouts.

We return what we borrow because we are Cub Scouts.

We don’t cheat because we are Cub Scouts.

We tell the whole truth because we are Cub Scouts.

We keep our promises because we are Cub Scouts.

We are loyal to our families, friends, religion, and country because we are Cub Scouts.

We did bottle rockets to go along with this theme. Here's how it fits together. When we are honest, it might be a lot of work but we will fly high! Our boys had to use a bike pump to give pressure to their rockets in order for them to shoot up.

Ben got a Gold Arrow Point and four Silver Arrow Points!

After using the pump for a little while we used an air compressor. The boys had a lot of fun and so did Dewey!!!

Ben's is the orange and blag tiger striped!

Bens Bottle Rocket Fun

Ben wanted to do a project shooting soda bottles into the air with our hose. He had many trial and error tries until he got it right. He used parts from his marshmallow gun, our hose, and the yellow sprinkler and a two liter bottle as well as a 16 oz.

Here is a better one that actually shoots up really high, but I took the pic sideways and it wouldn't upload after I turned it so turn your head instead!

Today's Adventure

The kids got to wake up early this morning to go on a sunrise hike with dad. Last night they set out their packs and clothes and went to bed early. Dewey's alarm went off at 5:30 am and I didn't want to get up!! I snuck into the kids rooms and quietly woke them up. I was quiet because Ruby and Ephraim were staying home with me and I wanted to go back to bed after the others left!! The kids were quiet getting dressed and getting some breakfast too. Then they let me take a few pics before heading out in the dark. They went up to Scout Mountain where they took a nice trail. They hiked a mile up the mountain, and Ben told me later it was a good thing I didn't come with Ruby in the stroller because there were some precarious spots. They sat at the top and watched the sunrise and then hiked back down. Dewey talked to them about what they should do if they got lost, like stay where you are and hug a tree, and hike DOWN the mountain, not up. Ben got to take the slingshot Lillie gave him for his birthday. As they were hiking Dewey saw some deer beds and told the kids if they were quiet they would probably see a few deer. Not thirty yards more and they spooked a few does and a buck and watched them bound up the mountain. Now on to the next adventure of the day... fix the washing machine!

I really need to keep updating...

We have been SO busy this summer, trying to get settled in our new home and get ready for school, all while still having one adventure after another. I love my little family and how the play with each other and do things for each other. Sometimes they are a little too helpful and feelings get hurt because mom asked me to do it!! I love that they are still at that age where they are willing to help.

At the new house we have a fabulous fire pit, and have been having fires (and hot dog roasts) a lot! It is fun to see the kids cook each other because the roasting sticks have enough for two! Joselyn and Ruby are sharing a room, and the three boys are sharing a room. I think they like it. I know that Joselyn likes helping her little sister so hopefully it will work out! The girls also get to have Annie in their room too.

The backyard is so nice. It is shaded in the late afternoon, so it is perfect to just sit and relax and watch the kids play. They love to make skits for us to watch them perform. They climb the tree, and today they made a pulley system so they could take their water bottles up into the tree with them. There is a swing set that they LOVE. It has two swings, some rings, and a swinging bar. It also has monkey bars and a slide. They like to do tricks like jumping out of the swing (Ben does a 360) and flips on the rings. I am sure that we will have a few ER visits as we grow, but I hope NOT SOON!

Here are some pictures of the house I have been meaning to put up. I love that we only moved around the corner so we are still in the same neighborhood and the same ward! Willard got very nervous because he didn't want to leave all his friends. His best bud lived three houses down, and now they have to cross the street to get together. They have also already complained about the walk to school. "But Mom, it is a LOT farther now!!" Truly, it is farther, but like half a block! I remember walking to school through the desert! (uphill, both ways, right)

I am excited for the kids to go to school. I love having them home with me, and I will be an anxious mom until they return each day, but I am excited for them to go and learn and make friends, and grow up. I love talking with them and watching them grow. It is amazing to me, this plan of families. I don't feel quite adequate to be raising these beautiful children. Thankfully they understand that too and are resilient.  Look at us, we had parents too, right! I love my parents. I hope I can be just like them when I grown up... shoot, I'm half way there!

Boys playing baseball in the fields.... Remind you of any films?

One of Dewey's favorite moves is Field of Dreams. Just the thought of playing catch with your dad brings tears to my eyes. He had the next best thing, playing catch with his brothers in Grandpa's wheat fields. I have a lot of pictures so please enjoy!

24th of July Celebration in Bancroft, ID

For the 24th of July, which is the date my ancestors made it to the Salt Lake Valley with many of the Saints, we celebrated in Bancroft, ID with Dewey's family. It was a blast to hang out with Keith and Rachael and baby Peyton. Dewey's grandparent's let us bring our trailer and tents and crowd in all over their yard. Dewey's cousin, Justin Eliason came, as well as his Uncle, Dan, and wife Shelly, and their boys, Erin and Nathan, plus their four dogs. Dewey's mom and Brittany and Brad were there with three dogs, Grandpa Eliason has a dog, Katie, and we had Annie with us, plus our five kids. It was amazing. We had nine dogs, nine kids, eleven adults and LOTS of fun. The boys went shoot rock chucks (grandma's pests and she willingly lets them eliminate them), we also went to the reservoir to play for a day. There was a fun parade in Bancroft and also the rodeo. They kids were great the whole day and here are some pictures!

All the boys were drooling..."What a cool truck!"
This was Grandma and Grandpa Eliason's float, "I Remember When"

This old guy has driven this truck all his life!

This is a really cool fire truck!
Wild Bronc Riding

The kids went out and were trying to get ribbons off the cows tails for a dollar!

I love that face!

Ruby did so good sitting in the hot sun all day!

My favorite, barrel racing!
